In some breaking news out of the river city of Brisbane, the names of the two men at the centre of yesterday afternoon’s siege have been released by Queensland Police.
The pair sent the city into lockdown yesterday after they became engaged in a tense 6-hour standoff with police and allegedly fired shots at law enforcement officials.
In a sensational turn of events, The Betoota Advocate can, in fact, reveal that both men have now been released from police custody under strict bail conditions.
The men, now identified as Wayne Bennett and Darius Boyd, have been allowed to leave custody under the strict proviso that they agree to leave the city of Brisbane and vow not to return to Red Hill.
It’s isn’t yet known why the two men decided to barricade themselves inside the apartment and engage in a lengthy siege with police officers, but it’s believed that it had something to do with Wayne Bennett’s reluctance to leave the club after his coaching swap with Anthony Seibold.
Both men refused to comment yesterday, but insiders at the Broncos Rugby League Club believe that Bennett took the news particularly badly, and decided to try and force the club, that he built, to take him back.
It’s also understood that Darius Boyd flew up early yesterday afternoon, at the conclusion of his first training session at his new club in Redfern, after hearing of Wayne’s plans in an effort to keep the coach at the club.
However, both men eventually gave up on their demands to police late yesterday afternoon and agreed to be taken into custody.
Ray Hadley reportedly began to blow up about the two men being released on bail in a token rant about bail conditions but dropped the spiel after realising both men were mates of his mates.
