In celebrity gossip news, NRL coaching supremo Wayne Bennett has been spotted at Brisbane airport today, as he prepares to travel to Europe for his first ever solo backpacking adventure.
After a coaching career spanning three decades and over 850 NRL first grade matches, the NRL’s most experienced coach is reportedly heading over for a European summer, and to find some exiled NRL players who are up to play for the Dolphins next year.
The move comes as the NRL becomes increasingly nervous about its newest team franchise, who would currently struggle to field a full team in an NRL Nines tournament.
Kicking back in the Glasshouse Bar, it’s reported Bennett was spotted taking an indulgent photo of his plane ticket and airport surroundings, as he enjoyed a $18 Peroni close to the departure gates.
Taking to social media, Bennett is believed to have let all his Instagram followers know he’s blown $3000 on a flight to Europe, teasing out the content with the caption, “See You Soon London”.
Other witnesses say Bennett spent several minutes attempting to load “Glamorous” by Fergie onto his phone, as he tried to soundtrack the lyrics “We’re flying first class, up in the sky…” to his airport schmooze.
Sporting a new pair of Teva sandals and a fresh climacool shirt from Kathmandu, those close to Bennett say he’s pretty excited to go ‘find himself’ in Europe, as well as find some Ex-NRL stars who’ve had enough of playing in the Super League.
“Wayne’s been working night shifts at Woolies to save up for this trip, he’s excited to finally get to London and see the world,” said Dolphins CEO, Terry Reader.
“He’s booked a week in a hostel in London, tickets to Tomorrowland and then he’s punishing his liver with a seven day Sail Croatia cruise.”
“After that he said he’s gonna wing it, and by that he means he’s trying to track down Bevan French and see if he’ll throw on a jumper for the Dolphins.”
Updates to come.
