Alumni of the country’s elite private schools are already prepared for the beginning of the Super Rugby competition this weekend, it has been confirmed.
The international rugby competition, which is closely followed by Australia’s elite financial and legal sectors, kicks off across Australia and New Zealand on Friday much to the delight of Australia’s upper and upper middle class.
Across the Eastern Seaboard linen shirts and chino’s are being laid out and ironed in excitement.
The competition only watched by those who have the disposable income to piss away on Foxtel, has many fans of ‘the game the play in heaven,” polishing their RM Williams and dusting off their scarves.
A solicitor in the Betoota Ponds, and one of a dwindling number of Super Rugby fans, Sam Mcintyre-Jones explained to The Advocate that he is almost wetting himself with excitement.
“This is going to be the best season for a while. It’s a real throwback to the glory days of Super 12, when Gregan, Larkham and Waugh were ripping it up,” he said.
“My Queensland Reds scarf has arrived, and I am going to be wearing it down to the Royal Oaks with some of the gents to watch the game on Friday night over a few Peronis” he laughed.
Phil Thomson, The Head of Marketing at the Australian Rugby Union told us that he has been encouraging the 4 Super Rugby Franchises to create custom line of linen dress shirts to sell as part of season memberships.
“Our fanatical members seem to all wear the same thing, so it would be amazing if we could model some rugby centric merch off the back of that.”
