Despite rolling India for just over a hundred runs in the first innings, both Mark Waugh and Matthew Hayden seemed unimpressed with the bowling performance.
“Big deal,” offered Mark Waugh.
“I bet even you could take five wickets on this deck, Haydos.”
Matthew ‘Haydos’ Hayden is arguably the most accomplished Australian batsman in India. Despite batting left-handed, the Kingaroy Boy sends down his pedestrian seamers with his right-arm.
“Oh, there’s no question,” said Haydos.
“Even Graham Manou could take five on this pitch! [laughs] I don’t even know what he bowls! Graham, if you’re listening, what do you bowl? I reckon he bowls offies than don’t turn [laughs] Hope you’re well, mate!”
The South Australian gloveman played one Test for Australia in 2009 after Brad Haddin broke a finger. He’s bowled two overs in first-class cricket, for a laugh.
Australia managed to post a 47-run lead at stumps with the loss of just four wickets. Both Mark and Matthew were shocked to learn that both teams had batted on the same pitch.
“I thought we were batting on the random square of pitch in the outfield?” laughed Mark.
Haydos joined him giggling.
“Oh man, I thought the same thing!”
More to come.
