The 3rd Grade Captain of the Betoota Mutts has saved the club’s face this weekend after a dismal performance out on the paddock.
After going down in all grades, everything was on the line in the boat race for the Dolphins on the fine Autumn’s evening away in Bedourie.
With a bad day for the club set to potentially get worse, Kev Simpson told The Advocate that he knew there was a lot riding on his shoulders.
“Last man in the boat race is always a tough position, and it’s particularly tough when you’ve been spanked in all the games for the day.”
“But, you can shy away from the limelight, or you can step up like a 2012 Usain Bolt for the Jamaican Relay team and get it done.”
“And that’s what I did, that bloke who was the anchor for them looks as if he’d give an Oxford University Bob Hawke a run for his money, but I’ve come up against him before and he just goes to water like St George in the second half of the season.”
Kev told us that while he was initially behind when it got to him, he made sure to get the job done for the club and bring home a little victory.
“Yeah, not the results we wanted out on the field but we won the boat race though. So that’s all that counts if you ask me [ha ha ha].”
“Anyway, pulled up a bit sore after it so I’ve told the coach I probably won’t make it to training this week,” he laughed.
