A number of leading boxing and mixed martial arts [MMA] commentators have come to the agreement that the ‘trash-talk’ and ‘build-up’ leading into the historic August 26 bout between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will be better than the actual fight itself.

The undefeated US boxer has knocked 26 of his 49 professional opponents out, whereas the remainders have been won by unanimous decision.

That fact has to lead to a number of armchair critics to conclude that Mayweather often goes for points over a more entertaining victory.

“He’s a boring fighter! I’m telling you,” said Advocate intern Wendell Hussey.

“Trust me blokes, this fight will stink. It’ll be like watching two blokes going at it over the last Lamington in the pokie room,”

“McGregor will turn him off like a frozen laptop. Just hold his power button down.”

However, Irish MMA megastar Conor McGregor is making his professional boxing debut against Mayweather. In the UFC, the 28-year-old has had three losses, but over 80% of his victories have come via brutal knockouts.

“To be honest, I’m more looking forward to all the sniping and trash talk leading up to this thing,” said Bernard Coleman, owner-operator of a South Betoota boxing gym.

“They’re both great at it. I love it most of the time. It’s a real mental game boxing is, most people think it’s all about two bozos clobbering each other until one gets a full factory reset of his brain, but it’s not. Trash talking and the build up are just as important to the fight itself,”

“My tip is Mayweather on points. This is his house. But there’s probably a rematch clause so whatever. Bring it on.”
