As the dust settles on the 2021 NRL season and the final two teams left standing slowly wrap up their benders, an NRL Icon has kept the news cycle churning.

2005 NRL Champion Benji Marshall has finally called time on his illustrious career, announcing the move alongside some of his former teammates this afternoon.

Speaking out the front of a Balmain Aged Care Facility where some of his premiership-winning teammates from the Wests Tigers are currently enjoying airplane quality food, Marshall said it was time to retire the flick pass.

The Wests Tigers legend who was treated poorly by the club said it was the right moment to wrap things up after a fun year with the Rabbitohs.

“It’s good to re-connect with some of the boys from the 05 glory days on this day,” said Benji after bringing in a pack of cinnamon donuts and some scones.

It’s believed the majority of the Tigers 2005 premiership side is currently residing in the facility, a couple of decades on from that famous win.

“Got a few scratchies for them as well,” he said as one of the 05 props rolled past with his walker.

Another of the old centres then pulled up next to him to yell something at the camera before asking if Benji could do one last goosey for them.

Benji’s comments come after a stellar season for the Bunnies where he injected himself off the bench to be a pivotal player in the club’s Grand Final run.

He is retiring after 346 NRL games for the Tigers, Dragons, Broncos, and Bunnies, 31 games for New Zealand, and that iconic flick pass that will likely never be forgotten.
