An office in downtown Betoota is reeling this morning as if it comes to terms with a major twist in a true crime series.
The Advocate can report that gossip was rife this morning at PR firm MGMT Communications, as a group 14 employees gathered around their pod of desks to debrief about their weekends and share some opinions about the latest true crime series they’re all simultaneously mainlining.
As an office of inner-city types who no longer watch free-to-air TV, topics around the watercooler often revolve around a heinous series of crimes that are currently being investigated on a podcast or Netflix series.
This morning, the team excitedly debriefed on ‘Sawbone’, a ten-part podcast series that investigates the strange disappearance of six sawmill workers in the Victorian high country town of Berrigatta, a town that’s not known for anything else other than the infamous murders and one shop that sells some award winning jams.
Now into its sixth episode, our reporter understands that the lone country boy in the office, Jai Brooks (29) decided to come clean and admit he actually hails from Berrigatta, and knows quite a lot about the case and should probably go and speak to the police
“Honestly I feel like the town butcher is dodgy, they interviewed him in the first ep and he just sounded shady!” proclaimed office manager Jenny Winters.
“You mean Steve? Nah that’s my uncle, he had nothing to do with it,” answered Jai, a little defensively.
“What about the sawmill owner, what was his deal?” continued Jenny
“Nah that’s Clive, my old footy coach, he was harmless.”
“What about the surgeon? The one they keep saying declines their interview requests?” offered another colleague Justin.
“Yeah he’s 100% worth a second look, he was super creepy and so was his brother who was the only physio in town.”
“They used to drive around in dual cab ute with a giant esky on the back. They were always out for long weekends “hiking” apparently.
“Oooooh” his colleagues cooed.
More to come.
