While some of the NRL’s award winners from last night are sporting sore heads this morning, that isn’t the case for the Sydney Roosters accountant.
In typical accounting fashion, Nick Robinson is back at his desk this morning working diligently away on the bits and bobs that make his club so successful.
The 52-year-old father of 2 thumped his other NRL club rivals to win the Dally M Accountant of The Year at last night’s award ceremony, and take home the coveted ‘Brown Paper Bag’ Award.
Robinson polled more than 10 votes ahead of his nearest chaser, the Melbourne Storm accountant Craig Boatswain.
The Eels, Sea Eagles and Cronulla Sharks accountant’s were all still disqualified from the running after failing to keep things ship-shape of late.
Robinson told The Advocate that he was humbled to win the award but, was blessed with the resources available to him.
“Look I am very lucky. To be able to allow guys like Cronk, Latrell, Cordner, JWH, Keary and Teddy to play on the same field is amazing. And we brought over Angus Crichton to sit on the bench and Ryan Hall to run water!”
“It really helps that I can facilitate TPA’s, property interests, cars, and all that other stuff, so it makes my life easy.”
Robinson explained that having all of those tools at his disposal allowed him to make the books look shipshape.
“I do wonder though, how some teams find it so hard. I mean look at Parra. They were fudging the books royally and could only assemble a shit heap of a team.”
“I still laugh at the lowies they were breaking the rules for. At least try and get some game breakers in.”
“I guess it probably helps that I’m not an ex player haha”
