The particularly difficult existence as a wife or girlfriend of an NRL player is getting pushed to the back of everyone’s minds tonight, as the game celebrates it’s ‘night of nights’ at Sydney’s Star Casino.

The WAGS (wives and girlfriends) of professional rugby league players often say the fruits of their chosen life are few and far between – but for a brief moment on the red carpet each year – it can all seem worth while.

“God damn we all look good” said one anonymous wife of an iconic Brisbane-based NRL player.

“The girls look bloody good”

“You almost forget about all the scandals and drama our men put us through when you see the glitz and glamour of a night like tonight”

One well-known Western-Sydney NRL player says it brings a tear to his eye when he gets to see the long-suffering partners of the game have such a fun time.

“We put them through absolute living hell. I’m glad they can finally get something out of it”

“They’ve had their dresses ready for months”

Aside from the frocks, shocks and drunk jocks – the award ceremony also made headlines as Billy Slater got awarded the Clive Churchill medal before even getting out of the limo.
