One of the married-in members of the extended family is today making a big point of telling everyone how much he likes yachts.

Uncle Terrence, who is the wealthy husband of mum’s sister has commandeered the remote control in grandma’s living room, and is only changing back to the cricket briefly to check the score – and is insisting the entire household watches the Sydney to Hobart boat race.

The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is an annual event hosted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, starting in Sydney, New South Wales on Boxing Day and finishing in Hobart, Tasmania. The race distance is approximately 630 nautical miles (1,170 km). The race is run in conjuction with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, and is widely considered to be one of the most difficult yacht races in the world.

Not only is uncle Terrence completely hogging the TV, but he has actually at one point referred to the event as the Rolex Sydney to Hobart.

“The cricket is on all summer kids” he says to his own children, and indirectly all of their cousins as well.

“This is only on for a couple days. I wanna see how Rolled Oats are going”
