Despite being constantly raided of their top talent by the Southern elites, it seems the Brisbane Lions girls have defied the odds and will take on North Melbourne for the 2023 premiership on Sunday afternoon at Melbourne’s Ikon Park.
Meanwhile, another oval down south will be hosting a the white hot flame of Queenslanders in pads and helmet, as the Brisbane Heat secure a place in the Women’s Big Bash League final against the Adelaide Strikers.
This comes two months after Brisbane’s AFL and NRL mens sides came short of their premiership glory in the final minutes of their respective September 29th and October 1st grand finals.
“This is about more than the silverware” says the Heat’s bat-breaking boundary finder, Grace Harris.
“We know that. I’ve had Kevvy [Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters] on the phone. He’s been saying some crazy things. The Broncos want blood. So do the Lions boys”
“So does all of fucken Queensland. We aren’t going to give these free settlers an inch. We are gonna let em have it all”
These same sentiments are echoed by the Lions captain, Bre Koenen.
“It’s all over for these girls from North Melbourne, or Tasmania, or wherever the hell they are from”
“We know we’re we are from. We are out hear wearing the Brown Snake, and all of Queensland on our back”
“We’ve all been speaking to the Heat girls, we understand we’ve got an entire state that needs us to twist the knife on these southern cowards”
