With March 4 Justice rallies taking place across the country today, the Federal Government has been urged to take the issue as seriously as other society-threatening ills – like needles in some fruit.

This comes after a month of the government failing to adequately address the accusations of sexaul assault being levelled at it’s employees.

As huge numbers of protestors march on Parliament House, and around the rest of the country, organisers have asked the Federal Government to try and take the issues of sex discrimination, gendered violence, sexual assault, and harassment as seriously as someone poking a spikey bit of metal in a strawberry.

The March 4 Justice rallies come only a couple of years after the government labelled some fruit tampering as ‘food terrorism’ and Minister David Littleproud promised people ‘would swing’ for that behaviour.

It also follows decades of failings in regards to gendered violence which claims far more lives than any other form of terrorism, and receives far less funding.

“Imagine, treating these issues like ‘fruit terrorism,'” said one of the organisers today.

“Or, maybe even religious terrorism.”

“Imagine dealing with a criminal act inside our lawmaking building properly? Or holding some form of inquiry into the first law officer of the Crown’s behaviour?”

“Or actually sitting down and making a concerted effort to come up with policy to address structural and societal flaws?”

Surprisingly Scott Morrison is yet to speak today and is not set to front any of the protests to discuss the government’s failings and the nation’s long-running issues with violence, harassment, and discrimination.

More to come.
