Landing in Brisbane last night ahead of NRL Magic Round, Rabbitohs stalwar Adam Reynolds has returned from injury ahead of schedule.
The 30-year-old will take back the number 7 jersey, meaning Benji Marshall now moves back to five-eighth. It’s good news for South Sydney fans, off the back of last week’s 50-0 clobbering against the Storm.
However, there will be even more eyes on Reynolds than usual this week as Brisbane City gets a good look at their incoming halfback.
On Thursday it was confirmed that Adam Reynolds had signed three-year, $2 million-plus contract with the Brisbane Broncos – and that the Redfern icon had knocked back a similar three-year offer from Cronulla.
Born and raised on Pitt Street – just a couple blocks away from the Rabbitohs home ground – 2022 will mark the first time that Reynolds has lived outside South Sydney. His contract stipulates that he will stay in Brisbane until the end of 2024, after being pursued hard by the embattled Broncos.
On top of sandbagging their nightlife precincts ahead of Magic Round, the people of Brisbane are also making sure they put in an extra effort to make Adam Reynolds feel at home in their city for the next couple of days.
Queensland Premier and devout Broncos fans, Annastacia Palaszczuk reportedly organised for Reynolds to be picked up from Brisbane airport last night by a chauffeured Bugatti La Voiture Noire – the most expensive car in the world.
“Adam wants for nothing this weekend” Palaszczuk told all of Brisbane in a live press conference last night.
“If you see him, say hi, be nice… But don’t be a pest”
“This man is key to our boys in Red Hill rebuilding their backline. It’s a much needed injection of experience and talent”
Brisbane’s Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner, has echoed the Premier’s sentiments.
“We will have undercover cops tailing Adam through the city to make sure no one spoils his trip. I’ve organised him a poolside room at the Calile – and Stefan has agreed to provide him with a pre-match fade if he requests such a thing”
