The capital of the Northern Territory is today being complimented by the rest of the country.

This comes after the city of Darwin confirmed that it is not currently butchering a light rail project in it’s CBD.

The lack of civil construction destroying the city’s main strip is starkly at odds with many other cities around the nation.

From Newcastle to Sydney to Brisbane, the flavour of the month seems to be currently shutting down the main parts of the city’s CBD to construct some super expensive impractical light rail project.

Darwin Mayor Phillip Mawson spoke to The Advocate moments ago about why he hasn’t felt the need to pressure the Territory government into pissing money into the wind.

I actually ran a pretty successful business before going into public life, so there isn’t stack of pressure on me to generate some subsidiary incomes whilst being in office,” Mawson said.

“So I don’t really need to get my gears greased by any large companies who need some infrastructure coin thrown their way by government.”

“And, obviously that would be the only reason you build a light rail network, cause you’re getting some serious perks,” he laughed.

“I mean look down at Sydney. They’ve shut down chunks of that city like a frozen laptop.”

“And Newcastle, geez I won’t even get started on that,” he laughed.
