A recent report by the Australian Institute Of Sport has found that even the most nonathletic Australians still find the smell of new tennis balls to be quite exciting.
The study, which went for 18 months and cost the tax-payer up to $800,000 has found that the smell of new tennis balls is something that everyone can appreciate, even if it is just a concoction of newly formed plastic.
“It’s like the smell of a new car, except better” says lead scientist, Tom Goolagong.
“In fact, it’s probably the most exciting thing about tennis in Australia nowadays”

Other smells that resonate the same feelings of nostalgia and joy include: the smell of zinc sun protector during a summer cricket match, the smell of deep heat muscle rub during a cold morning rugby match and last but not least, the smell of heated mass-produced meat pies during an NRL match at Leichardt Oval.
