Today’s historic Golden State Warriors defeat over the Cleveland Cavaliers to regain the NBA Championship with a 4-1 series win was good, but not as good as The Brisbane Bullets Grand Final win against the Adelaide 69ers in 1985.

The Warriors secured a 129-120 victory on Monday to take their second title in three seasons and cap a near-perfect run through the play-offs.

Golden State beat Cleveland in the 2015 Finals only to lose to them last year, squandering a 3-1 series lead. Warriors forward Kevin Durant, 28, was named the Most Valuable Player of the Finals – which makes him almost as good as Lerroy Loggins was during the the Brisbane Bullets first ever title win at the Sleeman Sports Centre.

Former Chicago Bull, Michael Jordan says even he knows that 1985 was a special year for basketball, especially in the River City.

“Man, those cats were something else” he said.

“Larry Sengstock got something like 6 assists… In the eighties. Those were some big numbers man”

“I remember watching it on TV, Chandler nearly lit on fire that Sunday”
