Thick warm glugs of strawberry milk are going down a treat this afternoon as a grade cricketer refuels from an intense session in the nets.

Averaging just 14 runs last season, opening batsman for the Betoota Dugongs Stuart Hogg has hit this season’s training sessions with added focus, especially after getting out for a golden duck in last year’s Grand Final.

A club legend that’s become a regular of the Diamantina Cricket Association’s Friday Night 20/20 comp, Stu spoke to The Advocate this afternoon about how he’s shaping up for the season.

“I took a year off Div 4 rugby this year so I’m feeling super refreshed,” Stu told our reporter whilst ripping the corner off a king-sized Violet Crumble.

“I’ve been keeping fit playing virtual golf every Wednesday at Holey Guacamole, the new digital driving range in town that does tacos.”

With less than two weeks before the Betoota’s ‘Slog n’ Schooners’ competition kicks off, Stu said he is planning to drop half of his tax return this year on some new kit for summer.

“I’ve had two years with this Grey Nicolls Astro Special and it’s just not working for me, the sweet is too high, it’s holding me back a bit.”

“I might head to Sports Power next weekend and get myself some new willow. I’ve been eying off a new Kookaburra Shadow Pro. Plus some new pads and I reckon you can book us in for a finals birth in February.
