As thousands of fans gather in central Stockholm to mourn international EDM icon Avicii, who was found dead in Oman yesterday, local mid-tier Australian DJs and producers have been quick to point at that they were big enough at one point to actually be in the same room as him.
The passing of the world-renowned superstar of dance music, who had been battling health issues for some time, has rocked the entire industry, but no one has been rattled more than the local DJ GrapeJooze, who met him in a lift once in the Valley..
“Shattered” he posted to Facebook.
“Actually met him once. Nice guy. Around the time I was doing a bit more touring and we were both playing in the same club one night. Such a shame”
DJ GrapeJooze, who used to travel to Fortitude Valley and Kings Cross heaps before settling down with a local instragram fitspo model, is one of millions of ‘big-on-soundcloud’ musicians who used to fuck with Avicci.
“Loved his early stuff” he told our reporters.
“I wouldn’t say he was a big inspiration to me because we were both doing pretty big things at the same time, but yeah, he’s definitely had the affect on heaps of younger producers and stuff”
