The nation’s peak rugby body has welcomed news that New Zealanders will no longer be allowed to come to Australia without first completing 2-weeks quarantine.
Rugby Australia CEO Rob Clarke spoke to the media this morning in Sydney where he explained having no New Zealand teams in the Super Rugby this seasons could be just what Australia needs.
“Rugby Australia welcomes the Federal Government’s decision to close the border with New Zealand,” he said.
“We feel this will help the code grow and find its feet in the early season as without New Zealand teams in the Super Rugby competition, it’s more likely that Australian teams will win matches,”
“And winning matches is what gets fan and ordinary Australians excited about rugby. This is good for rugby.”
The Morrison Government closed the border with New Zealand earlier this week after the British super spicy cough managed to get out of quarantine and into the community, prompting another raft of restrictions placed upon our largely unemployed cousins across the ditch.
