All Blacks superstar Aaron Smith has revealed this afternoon that in the wake of his recent spelling scandal, he’s signed on to be a brand ambassador to The Reading Writing Hotline.
Earlier this week, leaked text messages surfaced between Smith and a Dunedin woman that shed light on a rumoured lewd affair between them.
However, it was the half-back’s appalling spelling and grammar that ultimately become newsworthy.
Known famously for its ear-piercing jingle, The Reading Writing Hotline specialises in remedial adult education, especially in regard to reading, writing and arithmetic.
Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s showdown with the Wallabies in the Harbour Capital, Smith said he needed to put his hand up and admit he had a problem.
“It’s time to put my hand up and admit that I have a problem,” said Smith.
“First, I’d like to apologise to those I love for letting them down. My spelling has been sitting on the bench ever since they told me at age 12 that I was going to be an All Black,”
“For years, that’s all I cared about. About being an All Black. I guess my spelling and grammar took a back seat. But now it’s time to reconnect and reintegrate my love for spelling and shit. Chur fellas.”
The Advocate reached out to The Reading Writing Hotline for comment, but have yet to receive a reply.
The All Blacks did release a statement on the matter, thanking The Advocate for focusing on the real issue in the story.
