In partnership with the State Government, Brisbane City Council has today announced that they will be going ahead and building over twenty more cross-city walking Bridges that serve the same purpose as the sidewalk in the pre-existing car bridges.
“There’s certainly not going to be any levies, I want to say that from the start,” Cr Quirk said.
“We haven’t got to the point of a concept design for the next twenty bridges, let alone a detailed design or community consultation yet, so we’re talking a few years away probably before they’ll be any action on that.”
This announcement follows the success of the Kurilpa Bridge, between Tank St and the Gallery of Modern Art, cost the state government $63.3 million in 2009.
As well as the Queensland Uni Green Bridge which only pedestrians and buses can use.
QLD Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said that it’s all about giving inner-city residents a scenic walk to work.
“It really makes us look like one of those cool European cities,” she said.
“Sure our train lines could use a bit of work. But that can wait. Once we have everyone in the inner city on foot, then we can focus on ways to connect the rest of the city”
