One headline that has been greatly overshadowed by today’s tragic events surrounds the fact that in the early hours of this morning the Senate passed legislation to cut more than $1 billion in welfare funding, including support for single-income families.
One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, who has been singled out by Senator Jacqui Lambie for blindly joining the Liberal Party in a decision that looks to impact hundreds of thousands of Australians in vulnerable positions, was quick to deflect attention from her involvement in the scrapping of penalty rates.
Hanson took to social media this morning to capitalise on the tragic events that took place in London overnight by attempting to start the hashtag #Pray4AMuslimBan.
“One Nation has the only policy that protects you from the growing threat of Islamic terror” she said, ignoring the fact that state police have been kicking down doors of alleged ISIS sympathisers since she was attempting to make a living off dancing on television.
“We are the only ones who care about the everyday, working Australian”
Hanson then made an appearance on Channel Nine’s Today, where she attempted to draw parallels between England and Australia for five whole minutes.
When asked if her decision to scrap penalty rates was, in fact, not a good thing for working Australians, Hanson responded by saying that she believes it is the first step towards banning Muslims from Australia.
“Ummmm… No, I don’t think it’s a bad thing” she said, attempting to justify both her promises to the terrified working class and the billionaire political donors that funded her entire campaign.
“You, see… These muslims. A lot of them are working in jobs that Australians wouldn’t work in”
“Which um, means that, a lot of them are on penalty rates”
“I think scrapping penalty rates is a good way of stopping these people from sending money to their family overseas and bringing them here”
After several minutes of bumbling, Hanson utilised the message that she realised she was trying to make.
“Scrapping penalty rates is the first step towards a Muslim ban!”
“Australians should be less worried about how much they are getting paid for working menial jobs on Sundays and remember that we’ve had two Islamic terrorist attacks on Australian soil over the last twenty years”
“It’s the Muslims. Muslims. Muslims. Islam” she reiterated.
Jacqui Lambie has responded to these remarks by saying that Hanson has rocks in her head.
“I’ll give One Nation some advice,” she said. “You know why Clive Palmer [and his party] didn’t survive? I’ll tell you why they didn’t survive. Because Clive did dirty deals with the Libs.
