Staring at her phone screen with a mix of horror and shock, local woman Gemma Beaston can’t seem to find any photos of her favourite random couple.

The 24 year old marketing coordinator reportedly stumbled upon the pair roughly a year ago, when stalking her friend’s Instagram account led her down a rabbithole of clicking on tagged profiles.

The couple, Vanessa Robertson and Jason Phillips, were roughly three friends removed from her inner circle, and had piqued her interest due to their very apparent love for one another. With numerous photos of them gazing at each other adoringly, holding hands, and embracing with a ferocious amount of intimacy, Gemma had marked them as ‘couple goals’ and had developed somewhat of a sporadic addiction to viewing their profiles. Though she’d never met them personally, Gemma had been with them for multiple birthdays, day trips, wine tours and a very emotional engagement party.

But now all of a sudden, Gemma can’t seem to find any trace of Jason on Vanessa’s profile and the ring emoji is no longer in her bio description. Further investigation finds that Jason appears to have deleted all photos of Vanessa as well, and changed his profile picture from a cute couples shot to a photo of him jumping off a pier – all surefire signs the couple has sadly called it quits.

Putting her phone down as she takes a moment to register this new information, Gemma experiences the full spectrum of human emotion as sadness, anger, denial and disillusionment flash across her face. As someone who still felt the pain from the time Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan called it quits, Gemma wonders what couple she can put up on a pedestal now that her romantic illusions have been quashed.

More to come.
