Phil Mason might not be the manager of the Optus store in the French Quarter, but he is a boss in his own right.
Th 25-year-old IT graduate, doesn’t dress for the job he has. He dresses for the job he wants.
That includes a chesty t-shirt and skinny jeans, as well as facial moisturiser that makes his skin look extra greasy.
And a big part of that is the hair, according to Mason.
“Yeah bro,” he says to one of our reporters.
“The hair is such a big thing. It’s one of the first things people look at and it’s important that it is on point if you know what I mean,” he said.
Mason walked us through the different hairstyles he has modelled in the past, all heavily reliant on odorous amounts of hair gel.
“Obviously I had the ski jump in the past, then the full-on Blue Water High straight spikes, but now I have really settled upon the short sides and long, styled top,” he explained.
Mason says the key to that one is making sure it’s styled pretty tightly to ensure the longer top part of the hair sits properly.
“I’m more of a gel kind of guy rather than a wax kind of guy,” he said whilst stroking back his thin black hair.
However, one customer we spoke to told The Advocate that he wished Mason was a neither kind of guy.
“It’s too much,” the customer, who we’ll call Andrew, said.
“I was overwhelmed by the overbearing smell, and his overbearing personality, and upsold a fucking phone case I don’t want or need,” he said.
“No, I don’t want to see some of the photos you’ve taken on the same phone”
