In sensational Rugby League news, The Betoota Advocate can exclusively reveal that a high profile NRL player has been stood today, for buttoning the collar of his dress shirt at a mid-week conference.
The famous Cameron Johnston has been officially stood down from playing duties after he turned up to a media call without his dress shirt unbuttoned.
The protocol in the NRL is for players to have at least the top 2 buttons (preferably 3) undone whenever they give official midweek pressers.
Todd Sampson from the NRL Integrity Unit told our reporters in an exclusive interview that the call was made 24 hours after the initial conference.
“We had time to review the footage, and we strongly encouraged the club to punish the player,” Sampson said.
“It’s just really great that someone actually listened to us you know. It’s a rarity that we actually have influence over anything that goes on in the community, so it’s a really proud day for our guys here.”
Johnston issued a brief statement after the decision saying he was absolutely gutted by the news.
The statement read:
“I’m absolutely guttered (sic) by the lack of judgment I showed. I am really disappointed that I have let all of the boys down. I hope that we can move on and that the team culture isn’t affected by my actions. I just want to get on with playing footy.”
