NOT SINCE THE DARK DAYS of Margaret Thatcher’s Britain has the British pound been in worse shape.

With great predictable English panache, immortal singer Elton John is planning to rewrite Candle in the Wind in the wake of the Brexit vote.

While some have suggested that John is double-dipping on the moving piece, with the first alteration made for the late Princess Diana of Wales, the 69-year-old has hit back.

“Candle in the Wind has long been attributed to human suffering and sadness,” he said.

“This is just a timely renovation of the song, it’s topical once again,”

“Look, I’m not the catty bitch that the tabloids make me out to be. I’m not profiteering of tragedy. That’s extremely tacky and I’d rather be dead than tacky.”

The single, Poundle in the Wind, will be released exclusively through iTunes on July 1.
