After one of their best starts to a season in recent memory, the St Kilda football club are taking the opportunity to relax and re-charge off the back of a well earned bye.

Sitting a comfortable 5th position on the ladder after shooting out to an early lead in the first few rounds of the season, the Saints are heading west for some sunshine and warmer weather.

“The boys deserve to let the hair down a bit,” explained the coach of the football club, Ross Lyon.

“That’s something I’ve learnt over the years, you have to understand the human side of these things, and let them re-charge the batteries.”

Lyon said he’s planned out a bit of a tour for the group, including a winery day down to Margaret River and a trip out to Rottnest Island.

“Don’t worry, the meat heads in the team are under clear instructions about the Quokkas,” said Ross.

Lyon also said that he’ll be drawing on his experiences in the west to help guide the tour – given he spent a significant period of time coaching Fremantle.

However, while Lyon said he plans on getting the group to relax during the trip, there will be one light training session.

“Yeah I’ve lined up a little bit of a hit out for them on the Sunday arvo,” explained Lyon.

“Just a light training run against a local park footy team to get some miles into the legs.”

“I think it’s even going to be televised, so that’s something for the fans who are keen to watch their team during the bye week.”

More to come.
