The capital of our nation’s great and prosperous West are getting into the Origin spirit this week as Optus Stadium plays host to the must-win clash for the Queensland Maroons tomorrow night.
While there is overwhelming support for our Maroons, the people of Perth have painted one of their most iconic landmarks a shade of blue for the occasion.
The Crawley Edge Boatshed has sat on the banks of the Swan River near Nedlands for decades and is a popular stop for tourists and a landmark for locals alike. At high tide, it almost seems as if it’s floating out there in the crystal blue waters of the Swan.
However, the decision to paint it blue has left some Queenslanders scratching their heads.
In town for the high-octane display of rugby league action, Betoota Heights couple Dawn and Shane Service explained how they were excited to visit the epochal Perth attraction but feel let down that it’s been painted blue.
“It’s just a shame, ya know?” said Dawn.
“Ya come all this way and they’ve painted the cunnavathing blue [spits on ground] Like, they could’ve painted it maroon?”
Shane laughed as he admitted to our reporter that he urinated on the door of the boat house.
“Silly cockroaches,” he said.
“I pissed on their blue boat shed!”
The Advocate spoke briefly to a WA State Government representative, who made the startling confession that the Crawley Edge Boatshed has been blue for quite some time and has nothing whatsoever to do with State of whatever.
“It’s been blue for as long as I can remember,” they said.
“And I grew up in Dalkeith and went to Mod so I’ve driven past it a few times. I think it’s always been blue? Someone will probably correct me but yeah, I think it’s been blue for like 50 years? Don’t quote me on that.”
More to come.
