The New Zealand Warriors have today asked authorities for one last favour – to stop a certain individual getting down and disrupting their return-to-season pre-season training.

The struggling NRL club have asked the game’s organisers and Tamworth Council to please ensure that local man and Member for New England Barnaby Joyce is kept away from their facilities.

This comes as the Warriors playing and coaching group prepare to land in Tamworth tomorrow after Peter Dutton and Home Affairs signed off on the coronavirus travel exemption.

The club has been allowed to set up a temporary 14 days isolation base in the Tablelands as the NRL steams ahead to it’s May 28 kick-off date.

“Seriously, we are going to be toughing it out here in Aus for a long time without our families to ensure that this competition goes ahead, we don’t need to deal with anything else,” explained the Warriors coach referring to keen footy player and former Kiwi citizen Barnaby Joyce.

“We know he’ll be just going for a run and accidentally run past out facilities, but we don’t want the boys coming into contact with outsiders.”

“We know Barnaby’s got a mean Samoan sidestep and I’m sure he’d be good fun around the boys but just with everything going on, we can’t risk it,” he continued.

It’s not yet known how effective the team will be at keeping Barnaby out, but given that he rules the roost down there in the New England, they may have their work cut out for them.

More to come.
