Aunty Barb has seen plenty of things come and go, so she tends to take it as it comes.
However, the resilient Aries admitted today that she still hasn’t come to terms with Jonathan Thurston hanging up the boots.
The 74-year-old Cowboys fan from Betoota Ponds sat down with our reporters today to explain just why it hasn’t sunk in yet.
“I saw the King call it a day you know. I say Artie say he’s had enough. I watched Locky go out, and you knew it was special,” she said cradling a steaming hot cup of Earl Grey.
“This, in a way isn’t any different, but in a way it is.”
“He just may be the best I’ve ever seen in my life, and I’ve watched more games of Rugby League than you’ve had hot dinners, so I’m not speaking out of my backside okay,” she said to The Advocate today.
Barb explained that Jonathan Thurston is possibly the greatest footballer to ever pull on the Rugby League jersey, and said that it’s even more than that.
“He is an icon. A loveable happy go, lucky bloke, who just has the perfect shot selection every time. One the field and off,”
“When he runs out there tonight, for the last time in a Cowboys jumper, it’s not going to be possible for me to keep em back. It really won’t.”
“What a player. What a man. I don’t know if it will ever sink in.”
