Brisbane will henceforth be known as ‘Girl City’ after the people of metropolitan South-East Queensland decided to hand the reins over to women completely on the weekend.

This comes after 7 female MPs were elected to Parliament by the people Brisbane on Saturday night.

In what will surely be discussed at length over the next few years, it appears that the Liberal Party’s once stronghold in Queensland has been obliterated by female voters.

In the inner-city, it appears that the Greens will be handing over the seats of Griffith and Brisbane to two of the new female Labor MPs.

Elsewhere in south-east Queensland, the Liberals have also bled up to six several seats to Labor’s female candidates. The Federal Divisions of Dickson, Bonner and Petrie have all turned red – and in turn the number of female MPs from Brisbane could increase by 700%

The new MPs join the Labor Party’s Annika Wells from deep North Brisbane, and the last remaining Greens member, Elizabeth Watson-Brown.

From the Sunshine Coast to the Gold Coast, not one Federal Electorate is held by a man, and it seems that Brisbane’s general vibe and aesthetic has responded to these changes almost immediately.

Overnight, the famous steel landmark known as the Story Bridge has been decorated with gorgeous jasmine climbers.

Government buildings around the Brisbane CBD have already begun to undergo tasteful repaints, in both floral white and mocha mousse.

Locals say the city also smells different, with the once muddy pong of the Brisbane river now replaced by the same subtle coconut scent most commonly associated with Taylor Swift concerts and day spas.

While political commentators point to Peter Dutton’s poorly received strongman tactics as the cause for the River City’s decision to significantly lower the testosterone, Sports Minister Annika Wells say the earliest signs of this matriarchal take-over were present even well before the campaign, and points directly to the Matildas famous quarter-final shoot out against the French women’s side at Suncorp Stadium in 2023.

MORE TO COME.
