Local man Nathan Shaub (28) has a chequered driving record to say the least.

Over his lifetime, he’s lost his license four times for speeding and he currently has just two demerit points to spare.

Despite his clear negligence on the road, Nathan swears on his mum’s life that the cops will let you off if you’re under 10km over.

“I’m tellin’ you mate, going 119km/h is fine.”

“You’re not in the speeding range, cops only chase ya if you’re going 120 or over.”

It’s unclear why Nathan still believes this myth, especially since all of his speeding offenses have been issued when he was in this so-called grace-range.

The interview with Nathan ended as he sped off, probably going 49 in a school zone.

The Advocate reached out to Betoota Police Commissioner to directly ask him if the urban myth was true, or if Nathan was one step away from a public nuisance fine.

“It is definitely not true,” said Commissioner John Hughes.

“I don’t know why people think it is, if you are speeding, you will get booked.”

“It doesn’t matter if it’s 2km/h over or 22km/h, it is illegal.”

“I’d advise Mr. Shaub to stop telling people it exists, and I would advise anyone he does tell to ignore him.”

More to come.
