Israeli officials have warned that expressions like ‘What you are doing is a clear war crime’ and ‘stop fucking starving babies to death’ are rooted anti-semitism, and should be treated as slurs.
This adds yet another hurdle to the increasingly complicated and ever-changing paradigms around what is an isn’t an appropriate way to criticise the now undeniably genocidal cruelty taking place on the Gaza strip.
Initially, it was pro-Palestinians slogans that were ruled as unsuitable for placards and media usage. However, in recent months, it seems that any condemnation of the IDF’s military actions in the Gaza strip is also anti-semitic – and not just an attack on the out-of-control war hawk ministers of a Middle Eastern government, but also dehumanising to the highly diverse and politically broad global diaspora of people that follow the religion they claim to speak on behalf of.
Other expressions that have been ruled as politically incorrect and anti-Semitic include ‘what is happening to those children is heartbreaking’ and ‘What the fuck are you trying to achieve?’
Officials say that while a small minority of protestors may not be anti-semites, they are accidentally aligning with them by insinuating that starving children are also victims in this horrific conflict.
This follows yet another desperate call from a UN aid agency that says 6,000 trucks carrying food and aid are waiting to enter Gaza, which is being ravaged by mass starvation, as Israel and the US pull their teams out of ceasefire talks in Qatar.
The path ahead for ceasefire negotiations is now unclear.
Gaza’s Health Ministry say at least 115 Palestinians have starved to death since October 2023. Most of the deaths were that of children, and have been accelerating in numbers in recent weeks.
The UN Human Rights office said more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces while lining up for food at approved aid sites since May.
