Australia’s most distinguished political analysts and demographers have come together this week, in the hope of being able to make sense out of Parliament House’s greatest mystery.

That is, how the fuck did the National Party decide that ditching their promise of Net Zero carbon emissions was the key take away from the 2025 Federal Election result.

After Albanese’s Labor won 94 seats, and the once safest coalition electorates continued to get snatched by Independent candidates, the extremely vocal younger brother of the Liberal Party has decided that climate change is not on the agenda.

And for some Nationals MPs, it’s not even real.

Barnaby Joyce and Michael McCormack, who have both been leader of the party at some point, and now represents each of the two warring factions that are not currently in charge of this extremely messy 9-person political party, have today spoken to the media about Net Zero.

The current leader David Littleproud, says he’s “relaxed” about the highly contradictory comments being made by Joyce and McCormack, which – as the last two elections have proven – will only further contribute to the demoralisation of the Federal Opposition.

With 43 seats held by the Nationals and the Liberals, the voters have continuously made a point of telling the political class that they aren’t too keen on climate change, and they think it’s probably wise to listen to the scientists when it comes to things like this.

However, the Nats have done very well to not listen to the scientists over the last two decades, and are clearly not going to start now.

In fact, they are now willing to not even listen to the voters – and flat out ignore the results of both the 2022 and 2025 federal elections.

It is not known what the Nationals think ditching net zero would even achieve, in a country that now boasts 40% of total electricity generation coming from renewable energy sources – amid an ongoing and accelerated transition.

The only answer to this question would be that they are just trying to keep mining barons and tax-dodging fossil fuels corporations onside – in case they ever suffer the same fate at the 45 Coalition MPs that have been voted out since 2022.
