The Liberals and Nationals are now separate political parties for the first time since 1987, as the Nats refuse to enter a coalition agreement, citing conflicting interests about nuclear power and regional funding as the key reasons why the relationship could not continue.

Littleproud confirmed the news roughly three hours ago in an interview with Sky News.

However The Advocate has since learned that not only was there no face to face discussion regarding the breakup, but that Liberals leader Sussan Ley was reportedly left ‘shocked and blindsided’ by the sudden decision.

Especially when she found out via a post it note left on her office desk that simply read, “I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me.”

“Littleproud broke up with me on a post it. Can you believe it? A POST IT?”, cried Ley, showing our reporter the hastily scrawled note, “I remember when breaking up on the phone was considered bad form.”

“I’m not going to dignify his behaviour with a response. I’m not going to leave any angry answering machine messages.”

“Hi, it’s me. You’re a DICK!”

Ley sighs.

“That relationship was a complete waste of time.”

More to come.
