Local property developer Jim McGoon (66) has bitten into his own forbidden fruit today as he dobbed himself in to the police after he laughed too loudly at a rerun of Fawlty Towers.

The mid-to-late ‘70s sitcom featured Monty Python’s John Cleese as Basil Fawlty, a put-upon hotel owner who is not very good at his job.

Like any English TV show, only 12 episodes of the series were produced yet it continues to be remembered as one of the greatest British comedies of all time, a loose claim McGoon can really get around.

Noticing one of the 12 episodes he has almost committed to memory was on TV, McGoon cranked the volume up to war documentary levels as he joined Basil Fawlty and his oh-so-rude and stuffy ways.

“Don’t mention the war!” McGoon is alleged to have cried loud enough that some actual Germans might have heard it.

“Haha! Oh Basil, that’s not how you should treat customers at all!”

After letting out a near-deafening blast of laughter as the credits rolled, McGoon came to his senses. Horrified by his own actions he picked up the phone and immediately called the police to lodge a noise complaint against himself.

“Yeah mate it’s keeping the wife up, would you mind popping round and telling me to keep quiet? Thanks mate.”

As a precaution to what he assumed was his impending arrest, McGoon then went outside and sat in the gutter with both hands behind his back, sort of hoping that he would receive the variety of harsh police treatment he wishes upon those kids who skip rocks too loudly on Sundays.
