In case you haven’t been watching the news over the last 24 hours, the next golden generation of Australian soccer superstars are currently taking the world by storm.
Early yesterday morning, the Socceroos progressed to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 for only the second time in history, after Mathew Leckie’s second-half game winning goal sent Denmark on their way home.
The Socceroos has initially entered the group D decider hoping for a draw, but with Tunisia surprisingly beating France, who had already qualified, both Australia and Denmark needed a clear win.
The Australian victory has sent shockwaves across the soccer world, and resulted in some uncomfortable conversations within the Danish Royal Family.
This is because Mary Donaldson, Crown Princess of Denmark was born in Hobart.
A proud Tasmanian, who met her Prince Frederik of Denmark at the front bar of Sydney’s Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics, they were married in Copenhagen Cathedral in 2004 and have four children. The Crown Prince Couple live both in Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg and in the Chancellery House at Fredensborg Palace – where it is believed that the televsions have been turned off since yesterday.
Danish Royal insiders say that Princess Mary has somehow managed to keep her royal sensibilities in tact, by not commenting on the glorious Australian defeat of her new home country, and instead opting to cheer like a feral Tasmanian on the inside.
“GO YOU BLOODY GOOD THING” the Princess is believed to have internally shouted in the dying moments of yesterday’s match, while keeping her lips pursed and kindly nodding at her heartbroken husband.
“GIVE IT TO THEM LECKIE!!! YES GO THE MIGHTY SOCCEROOS”
“GET THAT UP YA FREDERIK YA CLOWN. WE ARE GOING THROUGH”
