With a prolonged lockdown looking likely for plenty of our friends across the ditch, contingency plans are reportedly being made.

Following Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern extending Auckland’s lockdown for at least another two weeks, the town’s hospitality industry has begun trying to come up with a plan to save their industry.

“It’s like the postman, but for food,” said Sandra Smith, the owner of Sandra’s Fish and Chips on Auckland’s main street.

“So basically we make the food, and then someone picks it up and takes it to our customers who are in lockdown,” said the innovative local business owner to The Advocate today.

The move is being hailed as a game-changer in Aotearoa, with 4 of the 6 cafes and restaurants apparently keen to sign on to the new scheme.

“My nephew TJ has a new mini four-wheel bike that he’s keen to use to make some money, so he can be our very first food postman,” said Sandra.

“Or the taxi driver is looking for work if we need a second driver.”

“We are still trying to figure out how to get the chilly bin onto the back of the bike, but we’ll get there.”

It’s believed the new scheme is proposed to be rolled out as early as this weekend.

“In time for us to watch you Aussies lose another Bledisloe game,” laughed Sandra.
