The National Cabinet has agreed restaurants and cafes will be allowed to reopen under the first stage of eased coronavirus restrictions.
It’s up to the state and territory leaders to enact those changes should they deem fit.
One notable omission from that list is pubs and clubs, which will remain close until Stage 3 of the restriction easing programme – which is slated for July depending on how this latest easing goes.
That’s left a number of Australians disappointed – but understanding.
However, one publican is reopening his pub next week after rebranding as an artisan beer cafe that serves ice-cold schooners of bespoke mainstream beer on saucers.
Dean McLazarus, owner-operator of The Gelded Seahorse Inn in the Old City District, will begin trading as Seahorse & Sons Coffee Co from next week.
The 47-year-old spoke to The Advocate about his new cafe today and what customers can expect.
“We have all the old favourites,” he said.
“Pokies, chips. A wide selection of Castlemaine-Perkins ales. That’s a small brewhaus in Brisbane’s upper west side. Oh fuck, I almost forgot. We have coffee and things. Bacon and egg rolls. Eggs bene, all that shit,”
“The cafe beer of the month is a delicious roast from Western Australia. It’s only available in a can, for now. It’s called Emu Export. Such a nice blend of flavours and aromas. If you find yourself at a loose end in the Old City from next week, come on down and try a ‘Bush Chook’ as they call it in WA!”
