A recent report by the Australian bureau of statistics has found the 95% of Australian children under the age of 6 are named ‘Ava’ – regardless of gender.
Statisticians say the prevalence of Ava is almost at the same level of Bella in the early 90s, or Bens in the late 80s.
According to the 2016 cenus, 95% of every child born since Kevin Rudd was ousted as Prime Minister in the 2013 election, is named Ava.
Chief ABS statistician, Dr Lote Sailor says that while it is unique to see a name so popular across both genders, these statistics are quite comforting, when you look at just how far young parents are going to name their kids something unique.
“I mean, the most popular name could be something fucked like Aquila or Atticus, that’s how things tend to be going nowadays. I guess we should thank our lucky stars that we got such a normal sounding name as the most popular”
“All in all, Ava is kind of unique but not too hipster. Plus there’s a few scattered across other generations”
“Just a bit weird to name a boy Ava, don’t you reckon?”
“I mean, I’m no expert.,, Well, actually I am. Yes it is weird”
