In some breaking news from the supposed ‘home of cricket,’ a major question about the future of the game has been posed.
With chat swirling around about the long term viability of the five day Test Cricket format, the issue of England’s place in the game has been raised.
Following a stunning 89 run victory for the Australian women in the Ashes test, credible sources are now suggesting that England may never win a game of Test cricket again.
“Across the men’s and the women’s game, we hold grave concerns about England’s ability to win again,” sighed one prominent cricketing commentator this morning.
The momentous revelation comes after Ash Gardener had the English batsman’s heads spinning right round like Flo Rida, with a breathtaking 8 wicket haul in the fourth innings of the game.
Her 8fa came off the back of a 4 wicket haul in the 1st Innings, giving Gardner the second best match figures in a women’s test of all time.
With plans already in the works to build statues of the Bankstown bowler all around the nation, Australia now need to win only two of the remaining 6 white ball games to secure the multi-format Ashes.
While England remain hopeful that they can maybe win a game or two with the white ball, it’s unknown how they ever plan to win a game of red ball cricket again.
“Declaring with two wickets in hand on Day 1 certainly won’t do it for the men’s team,” explained the aforementioned commentator.
“And it’s a significant time between drinks for the Women’s team who only just got a 5 day test.”
“So, it’s quite feasible that the English may never ever taste the sweets of victory following 5 hard days in the middle.”
More to come.
