Both Fox Sports and Channel 9 have today learned that over 40% of the NSW State Of Origin highlights reel will remain pixelated, until the Blues have had enough big moments to replace the current footage.
This decision was handed down by the NSW District Court this afternoon, and has been backdated to July 2, 2022 due to the previous time our major TV broadcasters have spent editing rugby league highlights.
The NSW State Of Origin Highlights had previously sat pixelated for nine months before initial verdicts were overturned, requiring another trial in November 2018.
The first trial’s jury was unable to reach a verdict, but today’s decision appears to be final.
This is a major blow for the NSW Rugby League, who don’t have that many big moments to brag about throughout the last twenty years of representative football.
It is believed that 3 seconds of footage from the San Francisco 49ers 2015 off-season trial matches has also been pixelated.
