A Betoota Dolphins 4th grader has given his immune system a boost today by bravely sucking on the festering nozzle of a team water bottle.
Up 16-10 at halftime to the Quilpie Magpies, spectators at Wally Lewis Memorial Oval said local prop Aiden ‘Boof’ Tookey participated in full mouth-on-mouth contact on a bottle being handed around in the middle of the field.
Boasting a first half effort of 11 tackles, seven runs for 48 metres and one penalty for dissent against the referee, Aiden was seen chugging down the bottle of tap water before giving his face and neck a warm squirt as well.
“Good half boys, let’s keep that intensity up aye” said Aidan, wiping some watery slobber from his chin.
“Gotta keep that up in the second half!”
Aware that the team water bottles probably haven’t had a rinse in hot water for several years given the fact they live in the team shed after every game, Aiden told our reporter his decision to touch lips with the bottle was to save himself from needing to go get a flu jab before winter.
“Nah man, I hate needles,” said the 115kg prop, “they wig me out!”
“Work has been offering free flu shots, but I told them I don’t need one, one suck on this bottle has probably vaccinated me from meningococcal, herpes and whatever else is going around town at the moment.”
“Anyway let’s play footy aye!”
