A Central African community has today made headlines around the world, after building a school all by themselves, without help from any unskilled Australian aid volunteers.
The village, which has been at the centre of Australian charity drives before, has managed to pull together the local supplies and labour needed to construct a one storey school house, complete with three classrooms.
This has been completed without any 19-year-old Australian girls, or mid-to-late twenties Australian life-coaching groups.
In fact, the entire projects was completed using 100% local tradesmen and women. Modelled off similar schools in the district.
Former boomerang aide volunteer, Melanie (20) says she can’t understand how they did it without spending $6k on flights for a school leaver from North Shore Sydney.
“Wait, so they didn’t have anyone to play with the kids while they laid the slab?”
“Who took all the photos?”
Even more fascinating is the news that the school will also be run and operated by locals from within the village – who will be working as ‘teachers’ – with lessons in maths, science and even English.
“I just don’t know they were able to pull it off. Was there a demountable for the volunteers? Or did they all come from the town? Where there any volunteers?”
