A proud Novocastrian has been spotted in the Sydney CBD this morning as he enjoys another week entrenched in the top 8 of the NRL.

Strutting down Pitt Street with The Screaming Jets blasting into his wireless earbuds, former Raymond Terrace man Phoenix Saifiti (32), was seen wearing his favourite Henny Penny jersey underneath his Tarocash suit jacket, as he made his way into the office of his engineering consultancy firm.

Having grown up in the Hunter region, Phoenix is one of the many long-suffering Knights fans whose faith in football has been tested over the last two decades.

Given his club holds the unfortunate hat trick of wooden spoons from 2015-2017, Phoenix’s thirst for finals football is rarely quenched, and is often teased.

“Back in the mid 2010’s, I used to drive back to Sydney some Sunday afternoons after going to a game at Marathon that we would’ve lost to the Dragons, Manly, sometimes even the Tigers!” Phoenix told The Advocate.

“It was after Tinkler came through, signed Wayne Bennett and a bunch of Super League reserve graders and torched the joint, there were some dark nights on that freeway let me tell you.”

But after six straight wins on the trot, Phoenix is starting to feel the tingle of finals footy in his loins, a feeling which appears to be manifesting in the way he speaks to his colleagues.

“I called my CEO “Brah” the other day, I really need to keep a lid on it!” Phoenix said whilst wiping the crumbs of a potato topped pie from his lips.

“Haven’t eaten one of these in ages, but I couldn’t help it but stop by Harry de Wheels in Woolloomooloo this morning and get a Steelworks Breakfast. It just smells like finals footy and early 2000’s glory!”

More to come.
