A Betoota Heights man responded by giving his friend a ‘dead arm’ after he was told his mother falling over caused the weekend magnitude-6.6 earthquake that was felt across huge swathes of The West.
Lewis Cardy, who joined a few mates early this morning to play a couple games of 3 on 3 in the Old City District’s Machattie Park, failed to immediately see the funny side of the obvious joke.
The 29-year-old told The Advocate that after punching Jake Spoon in the upper arm for suggesting his mother could cause an earthquake on the other side of the country simply by falling over, he turned the tables on him by suggesting it was actually Jake’s mother who caused it.
“So Jake said something like, ‘You know what caused that earthquake in WA over the weekend, Lewy?’ and I was like, ‘What?'” he said,
“Then he said my mum falling over caused it and everybody laughed so I gave him a dead arm,”
“Are you really writing an article about this? I don’t think it’s really newsworthy. And it’s not like it’s a slow news day, either. You’ve got the cricket, Wimbledon and all the other stuff. No wonder The Betoota Bugle is overtaking you guys. This is pathetic.”
Our reporter then concluded the interview and had another existential crisis alone in the car on the way back to the newsroom.
More to come.
