Images of police brutality, riots and looting continue to emerge from the USA as protestors take to the streets to demand justice for the murder of George Floyd, inspired by those who took to the streets to demand justice for their uncut hair.

With a similar history of treating black fellas like shit, many Australians have stood in solidarity with American activists by sharing the message on social media and letting it be known they don’t mind a bit of Kendrick from time to time too.

Perhaps the most poignant gesture came from French Quarter barista Tash Weiss (29) who was so moved by USA unrest that she had to share her New York City trophy-profie from five years ago.

“What a shame,” typed Weiss before pausing to ensure the photo was tilt-shifted to her specific standards.

“It was a different world when I was here in 2015. No Trump, No Hate, No Worries.”

The image in question was a selfie Weiss took from the top of Manhattans’ Rockefeller Centre and was originally posted with a caption about how similar she believed she was to 30 Rock main character Liz Lemon.

Five years later and Weiss has reshared and recaptioned her selfie to proclaim her love and ownership for a city she found genuinely terrifying for most of her stay.

“The people of NYC are strong and I know my city [sic] will get through this.”

MORE TO COME.
