Despite The Betoota Advocate’s tireless efforts to give Peter Dutton the fair run he deserved, the electorate of Dickson has tonight delivered a devastating blow to the Coalition. In what’s shaping up to be a historic bloodbath, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton is projected to lose his seat, with ABC election analyst Antony Green confidently calling it before the first sausage sizzle had even packed up.
Labor is now on track to form majority government, handing Anthony Albanese a second term despite a cost-of-living crisis, housing crisis, and mood crisis. This result appears to confirm what political insiders have suspected for months, Australians would rather endure another three years of beige incrementalism than Peter Dutton.
The Betoota Advocate had done everything it could. We patiently explained his ideas, tried to sell his vision, and even held our noses long enough to support his populist war on Aboriginal people and solar power. But it turns out the tsunami of anti-Dutton sentiment, stoked by years of hate media from the ABC, SBS, and those dangerous subversives at Guardian, was simply too powerful to overcome.
