THEY’RE TRYNA BUILD A PRISON, FOR YOU AND ME TO LIVE IN! If there’s one good thing to come from the rampant fascism rising worldwide, it’s that it’s given local bloke Josh Bakshi, 32, the perfect excuse to revisit some of his favourite anti establishment bands from his teenage years – notably, Armenian American metal band, System of a Down.
Extremely popular in the 2000s, System of a Down is known for their unique sound and bizarre lyrics, which range from protesting the Iraq war and US prison system, to bragging about how their dicks are much bigger than yours.
Alongside Rage Against The Machine, SOAD is considered one of the most political bands of the 2000s, with their 2001 song ‘Prison Song’ now more relevant than ever under Trump’s second presidential term.
So for a local, politically engaged bloke such as Josh, there is no better time to get back into the angry, rebellious music of his formative years.
Josh says listening to SOAD on repeat is all part of his new mental health plan, which is to fully regress into being a teenager again.
This comes as having 24/7 access to all the horrific things happening in the world has surprisingly made him feel quite angry and disillusioned.
“I’m blasting all the classics, getting back into my video games and smoking a fuck to of weed!”, says Josh.
“You know, between the sacred silence and sleep.”
More to come.
